Directions: Take the Soediyatmo toll road (Bandara exit) to Cengkareng, Tangerang. The theoretical 30-minute drive from Jakarta quite often become a 2 hour-journey due to the city's infamous gridlock.
Info / Insights: The airport is named after the first President of Indonesia, Soekarno, and the first vice-president, Mohammad Hatta. The multi-terminal airport started operations in 1985, replacing the aging Kemayoran Airport in Central Jakarta and the Halim Perdanakusuma International Airport in East Jakarta. Designed by French architect Paul Andreu, the airport is currently being expanded with more terminal buildings.
The IATA code CGK originates from the Cengkareng district where the airport is located.
