Directions: Jalan Berhala is located at one end of Jalan Sultan Abdul Samad which runs parallel to Jalan Tun Sambanthan (formerly Jalan Brickfields). You may enter Jalan Sultan Abdul Samad by the YMCA traffic lights junction or at the other end, opposite the Pines Restaurants.

During the annual Wesak Day (Vesak) festival, parking can be difficult. Easiest is to take the (monorail) LRT to either the Brickfields or Tun Sambanthan Station and walk from there.

Info: The Buddhist Maha Vihara was founded by the Sinhalese community of Kuala Lumpur in 1894. The Sinhalese were mostly traders and skilled workers brought in from Ceylon (Sri Lanka) by the British to develop the colonial Malayan Civil Service.

All religious activities of the Vihara are currently being conducted under the guidance of The Most Ven. K. Sri Dhammaratana Maha Nayaka Thera, Buddhist Chief Priest of Malaysia who is also the Chief Abbot of the Vihara. The Sasana Abhiwurdhi Wardhana Society, manages the administration & facilities at the Buddhist Maha Vihara.

Commonly known as the Brickfields Buddhist Temple, the Maha Vihara conducts full moon & new moon day prayer services, Sunday Dhamma school and registration of marriages. It also has a library and bookshop. On Vesak night, devotees take part in a procession of colourful floats with statues of Buddha. Roads along the route are closed in stages, as the floats and worshippers wind their way to the city center and back.
