Directions: From the MPAJ building in Pandan Indah, go straight and turn into Pandan Mewah to your right. Go pass the new Ampang Hospital and straight on up the traffic lights junction in front of Puteri Park Plaza. After about 500m, turn right into Jalan Bunga Melati and then left and up to Taman Bukit Permai at the roundabout ahead.
Info / Insights: Known also as Mini Genting (Siew Wan Tang) or Little Genting, the Taman Bukit Permai lookout point is lower than the more remote Bukit Ampang Lookout. Located somewhere in the maze-like housing estates of the Cheras/Pandan suburbs, its appeal is its relative proximity to KL. Like Bukit Ampang, it was first discovered by explorers groping in the dark (car).
It has since grown into a commercial landmark with hawkers and even a mamak stall staking its claim on the hilltop attraction. The stretch is actually the driveway to a housing estate and several apartments. On a busy night, parking may be chaotic as it wasn't designed to be a public facility in the first place.
Be aware that during Merdeka and New Year's eve, it is near impossible to drive up unless you get there before dark. Large crowds congregate there to watch the various fireworks over the city.
Actually, the most amazing sight is on the eve of the ninth day of Chinese New Year each year. Random fireworks from individual homes shoot up from all over city, continously. On that festival night, the Malaysian Hokkien community demonstrate their firing power and show the nation that they have as much money to burn as giant oil corporations, shopping mall owners or the tourism ministry :)
