Directions: From Kuala Lumpur or Petaling Jaya, use DUKE to get to the Karak Highway. Just before the tunnel and rest area, there is a bypass on the left that takes you to the foothill. Go up the winding but very wide one-way road and follow the signs to the various hotels when you reach the peak.

Info / Insights: This grand old lady of the city of entertainment may be overshadowed by the newer and gigantic First World Hotel, but it is still a familiar icon up above the clouds. On a clear night down in Kuala Lumpur, Genting Hotel's lighted red sign on its roof is what many see and recognise from afar. Rising about 6000 feet above sea level, Genting Hotel is also (informally) known as the Casino Hotel.
Genting Hotel is now connected to many of the other hotels and attractions by an extensive network of covered escalators and indoor walk-ways. Even with over 10,000 parking bays, finding a slot up in the clouds on weekends and public holidays may be challenging.
Nearby First World Hotel is listed by Guinness Book of World Records as the world's biggest hotel with 6,118 rooms.
All hotels on the hilltop (Maxims Genting, Genting Hotel, Highlands Hotel, Resort Hotel, Theme Park Hotel, First World Hotel, Goh Tong Hall Residence) managed by Resorts World can be booked from a centralised location online (http://www.rwgenting.com/). Please note that room rates follow a pre-determined, annual seasonal chart. Awana Genting follow a different chart though (see website).
Genting Highlands was named after the area Genting Sempah. After three decades, many Singaporeans still wrongly pronounced it as "Gent-Ting" (as in 'gentle').
What started as a dream by one man in 1964, has now blossomed into a truly self-sufficient city of its own. In 1993, Tun Dr Mahathir said of founder Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong (1918 - 2007): "He has only a limited educational background. He does not speak English, converses only in Hokkien and some Malay, yet he had been able to succeed in business – this was not easy"...
