Info / Insights: Steven's Corner in Setapak is one of the many 'new wave mamaks' that serves more than the traditional fare of teh tarik and roti canai. On the menu you will also find western food, pastas, satay, burgers and more. While waiting for your food, surf the net with their free wi-fi or just 'cuci mata' as the female customers show off the latest in pasar malam-style shorts.
The ladies' casual wear are about the only things tiny in size here. Everything else is big. This Steven's Corner is gigantic. It can easily accommodate more than 300 diners. The internet cafe next door
has over 300 PCs.
Why the optimism you ask?
With the TAR College and UTAR campuses nearby, there is a large student population residing in the area. Importantly,
there is a battery of low cost flats in the vicinity. Rows and rows of high-rise pigeon holes, as far as the eye can see.
These flats are built like the rooms of many casino hotels around the world. They are purpose-designed to be small and claustrophobic so that you end up spending more at the hotel's casino or F&B outlets. In this case, the residents, especially the younger ones, end up spending most of their time at the many restaurants and cybercafes mushrooming below.
